The National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO) conducted a study on state funding of juvenile justice services to track expenditures and trends nationally. The data below reflects solely juvenile justice expenditures, i.e. the costs incurred by youth charged in delinquency matters.

There is no more recent information available on expenditures. The 1998 Department of Corrections Annual Report states that the per day cost for an incarcerated juvenile is $198/day at the YDC. Total expenditures for incarcerating youth in 1998 at YDC exceeded $12 million.
