The National Association of State Budget Officers
(NASBO) conducted a study on state funding of juvenile
justice services to track expenditures and trends
nationally. The data below reflects solely juvenile
justice expenditures, i.e., the costs incurred by
youth charged in delinquency matters.

In 1994, the total juvenile justice expenditures
for Maine was $9,583,816. In 1998 funding totaled
$16,498,490, a 42% increase from four years earlier.
NASBO also reported funding in Post Residential
Care however, Maine did not report spending money
in this area.
